US visit of Abdullah bin Zayed concludes

After meeting with senior US government officials and Congressional members, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, concluded his visit to Washington, DC. Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed a shared commitment to cooperation in efforts to promote peace in the region. He met with Jake Sullivan, US National Security Advisor, and Brett McGurk, Deputy Assistant to the President and White House Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa.

US visit of Abdullah bin Zayed concludesAlso discussed were ongoing humanitarian assistance efforts following the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, and the UAE’s steadfast commitment to supporting the people of both countries. Prior to the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which will take place in Dubai in November 2023, the UAE is committed to deepening its cooperation with the US to address climate change.

Sheikh Abdullah also met Ambassador Deborah Lipstadt, the US Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism. Abrahamic Family House, an interfaith center with a mosque, church, and synagogue, was inaugurated yesterday in Abu Dhabi and will start welcoming visitors on March 1, 2023. Sheikh Abdullah was briefed on US efforts to address the Yemen crisis by US Special Envoy Tim Lenderking. Yemen’s humanitarian suffering must be alleviated through a peaceful resolution as discussed by the two officials.

During his meeting with Senator Ben Cardin (MD), Sheikh Abdullah discussed UAE-US cooperation in key areas. Among the attendees were Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh, UAE Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Political Affairs; and Yousef Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to the United States.
